I love this so much.
I almost never reblog western. But this is absolutely gorgeous.
Pleaaaaase tell me this is western pleasure
Pretty sure its a horsemanship class. :) patterns and such.
I have never reblogged western until now
I’d like to take a minute and say something. NOT ALL WESTERN RIDERS HAVE MECHANICAL MOVING HORSES. NOT ALL WESTERN HORSES MOVE STIFFLY LOOKING.
As you can tell this is a prime example of what a western horse should look like. Yes his head could lower a bit, but he looks perfect. He’s moving out and using his body.
Now the next time you criticize western riding or see some one criticizing western, remember this. Remember that not all western riders have that choppy movement, but for some reason that what judges look for these days. But not everyone does them.
So please the next time you want to write, or you hear or see western being criticized, remember this and also remember that western riders don’t bash the whole english riding events because some dressage person rolkurs.
And I think this is western pleasure. It doesn’t look like her other hand is up at the horn and she’s dressed a little more laid back then horsemanship
As a horsemanship rider…this is definitely horsemanship. You can tell because her free hand is up! It is exactly level with her rein hand (as it should be). Also oxfords are super in for horsemanship right now - I personally show in an oxford. Also the amount of contact is indicative of horsemanship rather than pleasure. In pleasure you would want more of a drape than she has.
i think western and dressage suffer from the same issues. they’re both amazing disciplines, but they’ve been in a decline from a large group of people taking short cuts to look like the end result, without actually doing it correctly which makes the discipline viewed poorly from the outside.
don’t lose sight of what the true purpose behind a discipline is, and don’t classify it based on the bad aspects; this is a beautiful image showing what western is really about and that it’s not pleasure itself that’s bad, it’s the people who degrade it by taking short cuts.
